Event Description

This is the first ever club event.

"Australian Pursuit" (Handicap) road event on 10.2 mile circuit
(http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/60710886/

put 7700 Boys Ranch Rd, Groveland, Fl , 34736 into your GPS -start is in
middle of nowhere(deliberately) about 6/10mile from Highway 33
-5 miles south of Highway 50(Groveland) on 33 turn left on to Boys Ranch
Rd-look for mailbox with 7700 on it or my Tan RV. Event goes clockwise
around circuit)  loop will take you 35-45 min to ride around for warmup so
if that is your plan make sure you are signed in by 9:30 at latest  and
ideally back in start area by 9:45

Sign in by 9:30 first group off at 10am-distances between 42 and 52 miles
depending on your group(stronger groups go further)

Tactics-while you start with a small group and will go fastest if you all
share the load and work as a team it is still first rider to the finish who
wins regardless of which group they started in-typically you work with your
group until they are caught and then you try to jump in with the now larger
faster group or you work with your group until you feel they are holding you
back or no longer doing their share and then you go for it on your own.

Rules-road event so no aero bars allowed-approved helmets on everyone
whenever you are on your bike-this is NOT an FPS or SR Games race- there are
no police at corners nor are there marshals responsible for your safety-you
must follow the "rules of the road" for your own and others safety-we have 4
right hand turns-on two of them (onto Pine Island off 33 and onto Boys Ranch
Rd off 561 we have right of way but at the other two(Pine Island onto 561
and Boys Ranch Rd onto Highway
33) we have a STOP sign-you have to be very careful here-don't believe your
fellow riders-slow down and check for yourself that it is safe to merge out
into traffic-you are responsible for both knowing the course and riding it
safely. You will never win an argument with a car or pick up truck so just
don't put yourself or  others in that position There will be PINK arrows at
turn onto Boys Ranch off 561 and on Highway 33 turn onto Pine
Island(assuming I can get back out there and paint them on road!)  -for
other two turns if you come to STOP then turn RIGHT.

Yellow line rule is in effect everywhere-especially on corners!!- except the
last 200yds (assuming there is no on coming traffic) roads should be pretty
quiet on Sunday morning but that doesn't mean some farmer isn't totally
within his rights to be moving his hay wagon down the road-be safe, be
polite and be fair to everyone-this is not the Olympics it is just a
training event to learn and get fit from-no medals-no cash-so carefully
weigh the risks you take!!

This is a Florida Masters Club event and everyone should be a member to
participate-Treasurer Dan O'Hara will bring forms to sign up any new member
so there is no conflict.

We will have a better event with a large group of volunteers to keep track
of things-no skill necessary just willingness to help out-so if you are not
riding then please show up and help-so far John Sharp (only does tt's) and
Jim Rahman(recovering from back surgery) and several "significant" others
have said they will help-the more support the smoother things will go and
maybe I will even get to warmup and ride.

It will still be a help to me if I can try to pre plan the groups and the
numbers for post ride food($5.00 contribution please!)so  if you just
respond to this thread with "I think I will be there" message it will help
me.
